Engineering plastics are increasingly used in industry as cost effective solutions to many problems. The advantageous properties they possess for use in engineering include the fact that they exhibit excellent resistance to wear, are self-lubricating and contribute to noise reduction.
Here at Provincial Rubber we manufacture, stock and supply a wide range of engineering plastics made of high-quality materials. For example we offer polycarbonate sheets, often used as an unbreakable glazing substitute, that are 200 times stronger than glass while allowing for 90% light transmission.
We also make and deliver acrylic for signage and display purposes; flexible polypropylene that is perfect for cladding; lightweight yet durable foam PVC that can be painted, printed, engraved or milled; hard-wearing UHMW PE is great for machinery parts and lining storage containers; and nylon 66 is a material used widely in synthetic fabrics as well as for moulding into tough items like chopping boards or bicycle wheels.
Our engineering plastics and display plastics are available in extruded or pressed sheets and extruded rods, in many cases in different colours, in different sizes and thicknesses. If you require a product of particular dimensions just let us know and we will endeavour to help you.
All these products are available to order here online, using our safe, secure checkout. We are committed to speedy delivery anywhere in the UK and a high standard of customer service, so you can browse our site and buy with confidence, knowing you are shopping for UK-made Engineering Plastics products from a well-established company of high repute.
Provincial Rubber has been manufacturing and supplying rubber, plastics and polymers to industry and enterprise from its base in Bristol since 1932.
The products available include:
POLYCARBONATE SHEET – polycarbonate sheets are often used as a unbreakable glazing substitute, 200 times stronger than glass, 90% light transmission, can easily be bent, hot or cold, machined and fabricated and ideal for machine guards.
ACRYLIC – similar in appearance but not as durable, used for signs, displays etc., excellent UV resistance and can be formed by preheating.
POLYPROPYLENE – has outstanding resistance to fatigue from flexing, it is more resistant to oils and greases than polyethylene with similar electrical properties, widely used in cladding and clean rooms for its ability to withstand steam and chemicals.
FOAM PVC – lightweight and durable material, can be painted, printed, engraved or milled. The closed cell structure prevents water ingress. It has good impact resistance and is non-toxic.
UHMW PE – UHMW PE – the ideal material for wear parts in machinery and equipment as well as a superb lining in material handling systems and storage containers. UHMW PE is self- lubricating, shatter resistant, long- wearing, abrasion and corrosion resistant. UMNW PE wear strip material, very high wear characteristics. We can machine to various shapes as per specifications.
NYLON 66 – nylon is a generic name and nylon is commonly used in textile industry, Few people knows that nylon is a synthetic linear polymer with repeating amide groups (-NH-CO-) which is used in the manufacturing of textile fibres. Carothers produced Nylon 66 by condensation reaction of adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine, to give the [-NH-(CH2)6-NH-CO(CH2)4-CO-] repeating unit. Nylon has revolutionised the textile industry and nylon is the forerunner for many of today’s modern, synthetic fabrics. Nylon 66, is used as fibre in dress material (shirts, dresses), and as a plastic, e.g. chopping boards, bicycle wheels, … Nylon 66 is a standard and oil filled nylon available in sheet, strips, rod and machined parts.
Other products include PTFE, Acetal, Polyethylene and Carbon Fibre in sheet or bar, Tufnol and wall cladding materials.
