Compression Packing
Controlling the loss of fluid is vital for the successful operation of mechanical equipment that is utilised in the handling of liquids or gases. Compression packing is the most common form of seal used in these cases.
Made from soft, pliant material, compression packing rings are inserted into the space between the rotating part and the body of a pump or valve. A gland is tightened against the top ring, transmitting pressure to the packing, expanding the rings radially against the side of the body and moving part, creating a seal.
Compression packing is found in all sorts of industries from petro-chemical, paper and steel to food processing, sewage and nuclear. It is used to seal in all sorts of fluids including water, steam, acid, gases, oil, caustics and solvents in a wide range of temperature and pressure conditions.
